How to Secede From the Fast Food Nation

With the disappearance of traditional foods due to the prevalence of convenience food, a new philosophy has emerged: Slow Food.

What is Slow Food?

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living, and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

Slow Food seeks to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system. It wants to reconnect people with the traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils, and waters that produce our food. It transforms food policy, production practices, and market forces so that they ensure equity, sustainability and pleasure in the food we eat.

Slow Food believes the enjoyment of excellent cuisine and drink should be combined with efforts to defend biodiversity in our food and save the countless traditional grains, vegetables, fruits, animal breeds, and food products from “extinction.”

Slow Food is good, clean, and fair food. The food we eat should taste good; it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare, or our health; and food producers should receive fair compensation for their work.
